Power Costs

Path of Ice / Liquification and Calefaction
Issue Description:

Some of the spells in these spell lines have larger than desired power costs that serve to limit the utility of the class. The wizard community feels that if this design were changed it would be helpful in utilizing the utility aspect of the class.
Examples:
  • The wizard single target root currently costs 28% more than the equivalent spell for similar classes (Wizards' 49 Anchor Of Ice, 32 pow; Sorceror and Cabalists' 49 Superior Leg Twisting, 25 pow; Runemasters' 49 Annihilate Movement, 25 pow).
  • The AE DD/debuff in Liquification and the AE DD/snare in Calefaction cost more power than the expected cost of the Pyromancy AE. (Calefaction's 47 Molten Ocean, 40 pow; Liquifaction's 46 Boiling Cloud, 39 pow; Pyromancy's 44 Ebullient Blast, 28 pow)

Secondary Effects of Combo Spells

Duration and Effectiveness
Issue Description:

The wizard community believes that increasing the effectiveness and/or duration of the subspells on its DD/snare, DD/debuff and AE versions would help the class to better utilize its utility aspect.
Examples:

  • Currently, the duration (20s) of the debuff effect on wizard DD/debuff effects (Searing Blast and Boiling Cloud) is designed to be one third of the duration of the debuff effect of similar spells on other classes. Increasing this duration of this debuff would help wizards to better utilize the utility aspect of this spell.

  • Currently, the Liquification DD/snare (Entangling Haze (Potent), lvl 50, 3.0s cast) and Calefaction AEDD/snare (Molten Ocean, lvl 47, 3.0s cast) provide a 35% snare. Increasing the effectiveness of these snares by 10% or more would help wizards better utilize the utility aspect of these spells.
Realm Ability Issues
Wall of Flame

Issue Description:
Currently Wall of Flames has a 15 second duration and ticks during those 15 seconds at 3, 6, 9, and 12. The wizard community believes that it should tick a final time at 15 seconds as well.

Volcanic Pillar

Issue Description:
Most wizards feel that Volcanic Pillar (VP) does not give enough "bang for the buck." All wizard speclines contain an AE and this AE performs on par or better than the lower levels of VP both in terms of damage done (eg. VP1 is ~50% and VP2 ~115% of the damage of the level 44 Pyromancy AE DD) and actual casting time. The other advantages granted by VP are, thus not felt to outweigh the cost.

Master Level Issues

Stormlord

All Spells in Line
Issue Description:

In practical application, the Stormlord line has been observed to be particularly limitting and overly difficult to use effectively. Among the reasons for this opinion:
  • All storm effects (Stormlord 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9) are on the same timer. This shared timer limits the casters options and mobility too severely.

  • The debuff storm effects (Stormlord 4, 7, 8) require the target to stand in the storm for an extended period of time to achieve full effect and wear off very quickly after the target leaves the area. These requirements make these storms less useful than they might be.

  • Focusing Winds (Stormlord 6) the focus requirement on this ability means that it is rarely effectively used.

  • Arcing Power (Stormlord 10) is a buff that requires a casting time and has a short duration. This casting time means that is difficult to use effectively, especially since every Wizard spec. line already contains an AE.
Convoker
All Spells in Line
Issue Description:
  • Summon Wood (Convoker 1): It would be appreciated if there were less variance on the type of wood summoned with this ability.

  • Summon Mastery (Convoker 9): This ability cannot be used by Wizards and other class without pets. It would be more useful if it would work on a targetted realm mate's pet.

Other Issues

Issue Description:
Damage/Utility: The wizard community still feels that the class is not as interesting or effective as it should be in many circumstances because of a lack of sufficient utility to complement the current damage. This issue has been brought up often on past Wizard Team Lead Reports and the results of the discussions on this issue are still eagerly awaited.

Issue Description:
Race Choice: Elementalists are currently the only type of caster who do not have access to a race with an above average (>60) starting dexterity. The wizard community believes it is time to indoctrinate Saracens into the mysteries of Wizardry.

PvE Issues

Issue Description:
Epic mobs (such as most x.10 mobs for master level trials) resist most (non-gtae) spells at an extremely high (almost 100%) rate in a raid without a large number of attackers. It is discouraging when a wizard does more damage swinging his staff than casting spells. It would be appreciated if the resist rate of high level mobs to spells were decreased.

Issue Description:
A large number of mobs including some for master level trials and artifacts (eg. Ianeter's Fire Island and Phoenix) are heat immune or extremely (>50%) heat resistant. It is unduly difficult for fire wizards to be effective in these situations.
